Last Weekend there was the special offer weekend in the Steam Onlineshop, where you could buy The Settlers 7 - Gold Edition for just 5 Euros. But fans of the strategic realtime game might have experienced some issues when trying to start the game under Mac OS X like I did.

Read here how I got the game running!

When I tried to start the game with Mac OS X Mavericks it crashed with the following error message:

"Exception raised - Unhandled privileged instruction at address (...). Do you wish to debug it?"

I guessed this message could be triggered cause of bad file permissions I tried to start the application with root permissions and voilà: - This got the game running:

Just open a Terminal window and enter this command:

sudo open " [ path to settlers7 folder] /"

After pressing return Terminal asks for your command and the little crown will jump happily in your dock ;)

(Sometimes it takes Settlers7 two attempts to get going, so if it doesn't work at the first attempt, just quit the crown from the dock and hit Arrow key UP in Terminal to recall the last command!

$ sudo open "/Applications/The Settlers 7 - Paths to a Kingdom.localized/"

Good luck!
